Design Philosophy & Inspiration

At the heart of a garden is a sense of place

Every garden has its own special qualities of light and shadow and earth and stone that contribute to a sense of place and this quality can be enhanced by creatively looking at how the house sits on the plot in relation to the daily journey of the sun.

I like to create a journey around a garden with space carved and sculpted to create areas of contrasting atmospheres from intimate spaces to wide views and vistas. The design is rooted in the specifics of the site by reflecting local materials and referencing the house, the local area and local wildlife habitats.
